Due to the inherent variability in data collection formats between hospitals, a standardized Prospective Registry is required to limit the heterogeneous data definitions and variability in data format. To this end, the ARCH Prospective Registry is currently being designed to provide the highest currently available evidence in understanding surgical practice on patient outcomes.
A uniform data dictionary will be utilised by all participating centers. This data dictionary is currently under design, and will be modified and approved by the Research Steering Committee. The data dictionary will conform to definitions recommended by various professional associations so as to limit the onerous task of dual data collection by the participating centers.
The leading Australian eResearch support agency has been contracted to develop an online web-based data-entry platform. This system will be specially designed for ease of data entry and patient confidentiality, and will conform to electronic medical record legislations in the participating countries.
